EXAMINATION REGULATIONS

9.1 The   common regulations for the Masters Degree in the University of Nairobi shall apply  to                                                                    

      the  M. Med Diagnostic Imaging and Radiation Medicine.  

  1. Candidates enrolled for the M. Med Diagnostic Imaging and Radiation Medicine degree shall be required to take examinations and pass in all courses both in part I and part II.
  2. The examination shall be marked out of 100% and the pass mark shall be 50%.
  3.  Continuous assessments shall comprise of assignments and written end of term papers and it shall constitute 30% of the total examination mark in  part I and 40% in for part II.
  4.  A candidate who shall obtain a mark between 40-49% in one of the papers shall be required to      re-take the paper within a period of 6 months.
  5. A pass mark obtained on re-sit be recorded as 50%, while that for the retake shall be the mark obtained at the said sitting.
  6. A candidate who shall obtain a mark between 40-49% in more than one paper shall repeat the year. 
  7. A candidate who fails to obtain 40% in one or more papers shall, on the recommendation of the school of Medicine Board of Examiners and approval by the senate, shall be allowed to repeat the year.

9.9 No candidate shall be allowed to repeat on academic grounds any one year more than once.

9.10  A candidate who fails a retake, or second resit examination, or fails to complete the programme     within the prescribed period shall on recommendation of the School of Medicine Board of Examiners and approval of the Senate be discontinued.

  1. Candidate must pass in all courses before being allowed to proceed to the part II of the study.
  2. Candidate must obtain a pass mark of 50% in each of the subjects of the examination.  The passes will be graded as follows:-
  1. Pass                  - 50-64%
  2. Credit              - 65-74%
  3. Distinction      -75% and above
  1. EXAMINATION OF DISSERTATION
    1. The common regulations of examination of dissertation in University of Nairobi shall apply.
    2. Five copies of the dissertation shall be submitted not later than six months before commencement of the part II examination.
    3. The dissertation shall be examined out of 100% being an average mark from the internal and external examiners marks.  The internal examiner will be any other member of the academic staff other than the candidates supervisor.
    4. The pass mark shall be 50%.
    5. A candidate who fails to obtain a pass mark in the dissertation shall not be allowed to take the part II final examinations.  The candidate will be allowed to re-submit the dissertation after three months, up to a maximum of two times and will then be allowed to sit for the final examination during the next regular examination period. 
    6. The pass mark obtained by resubmission of the dissertation shall be recorded as 50%.
