Dr. Gladys Mwango, Chairperson and Senior Lecturer at the Department of Diagnostic Imaging and Radiation Medicine at the University of Nairobi.

Dr. Gladys Mwango is the chairperson and a senior lecturer in the Department of Diagnostic Imaging and Radiation Medicine at the University of Nairobi.

She is actively involved in the development of radiology education and subspecialty training in Africa.

Dr. Mwango coordinates the international resident virtual education for RISE; an educational radiology outreach project launched in December 2015 by the Radiological Societies of North America (RSNA).

She has keen interest in pediatric radiology and represents the African Society of Pediatric Imaging at the World federation of Pediatric Imaging.

She also participates in the TB corner where, together with pediatric radiologists from around the world; participate in the reporting of radiology images from underserved areas.

Dr. Mwango is the organizing secretary for the Pan-African Congress of Radiology and Imaging (PACORI) and is instrumental in the development of the radiology safety campaign AFROSAFE in Africa. The AFROSAFE campaign was launched in February 2015 is rapidly gaining momentum within the continent.

She also has spearheaded the development of the AFROSAFE implementation tool matrix which was launched in November 2015 during the Radiology Week which marked the 2015 International Day of Radiology. The AFROSAFE implementation tool matrix has been distributed within the continent and is being used to develop institutional and national radiation safety programs.

Dr. Mwango is currently the chairperson of Kenya Association of Radiologists. Prior to joining the University of Nairobi, she was a lecturer in the department of Radiology and Imaging, Moi University.

She is an alumnus of University of Nairobi and has attended short term postgraduate courses in Tel Aviv, Indiana and Harvard Universities.

She has extensive experience in supervising post-graduate research and has authored 5 academic publications in refereed journals, contributed to the development of e-learning modules, written 3 theses and presented 3 papers in international and local scientific conferences.
